On 18th September in the exceptional setting of St John’s Square, the Chilean Embassy has celebrated the 207th Anniversary of the Independence Day. The acoustics, atmosphere and architecture of the place came together to create a rich experience where a tribute to Violeta Parra was performed by the Musical Group Quimantu formed in 1981 by the Chilean musician and composer Mauricio Venegas Astorga. Violeta Parra is Chile's most prominent composer, songwriter, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and visual art. Through her lyrics and art, Violeta becomes a public voice for Chile's social and emotional struggles among those in needs.
Many ambassadors from Latin America, Lords, Ladies, Mayors, and Member of Parliament Jeremy Corbyn, the Leader of the opposition were in attendance.
