Songwriter, folklorist, visual artist and poet, Violeta Parra is one of the greatest -and most controversial- Latin American artists of all time.
During the 1950s, Violeta travelled across a country 4,300 km long recording original folk music, saving local melodies from becoming extinct. She was the first Latin American artist to have a solo exhibition at the Louvre with her “arpilleras” and her work inspired artists from different disciplines, including Pina Bausch. But just like her art, Violeta’s mind was hectic.
“The Colour Violet”, is a fictional portrayal of Violeta’s mental voyage, exploring her life through her last songs, from “joy to sorrow,”
and life to death.
Directed by Diego Poupin
