On the12th of March, The Anglo-Chilean Society held its Annual General Meeting (AGM), celebrating its achievements and strengthening ties between the UK and Chile. Chairman Fiona Clouder opened the event with gratitude to attendees, including Ambassador Ximena Fuentes and the executive committee. Reflecting on the past year, Fiona highlighted the Society's efforts in fostering cultural exchange and supporting Chilean communities in need.
The event also featured remarks from the Ambassador, who praised the Society's work and expressed appreciation for the warm welcome upon assuming the role in May 2024. The Ambassador commended the committee's dedication and highlighted the flourishing partnership between the Embassy and the Society over the past years.
This year’s AGM was particularly special, marking the Society's 80th anniversary. The Ambassador hosted a commemorative reception in September 2024, underscoring the enduring principles of mutual understanding and aid. Fiona emphasized the Society's ongoing challenges, including financial sustainability and engaging younger audiences. Plans for expanding activities and strengthening business links with the Chilean diaspora were also discussed.
The AGM concluded with the adoption of the financial report and committee elections, welcoming new member Richard Sterland. Fiona was re-elected as Chairman alongside Magdalena Jones as Vice Chairman.
The evening transitioned to a captivating talk by artist Colin Taylor, who shared the inspiration behind his Chilean landscape paintings. Taylor's artwork, delayed by the pandemic, was warmly received, adding a cultural highlight to the event. Guests enjoyed refreshments and discussions, celebrating their shared connection to Chile. The Society looks forward to continuing its meaningful work in the year ahead.
